The 2012 Indianapolis Home Show Centerpiece Home with it’s Once Upon a Time theme is definitely worth touring. And don’t let the long line deter you – it moved surprisingly quickly, and once you’re inside you won’t even remember the wait!

With so many unique and beautiful design details it was hard to pick my favorite element of the home, but I did really love the exposed beams in the two-story Great Room and the antique brick backsplash in the Master Bath. All the cleverly repurposed furniture selections were fun, too. Keep your eye out for the antique quilt rack serving as the base for the kitchen table, railroad ties which form the legs of dining room chairs, and a wooden basket cart with reclaimed trolley wheels providing storage in the laundry room! It’s finally here! The 2012 Indianapolis Home Show opens today at 11 am at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. I’m excited to tour the  Craftsman style Centerpiece Home with its Once Upon a Time theme. The Centerpiece Home plans that Fischer Homes unveiled a few months ago were amazing, and the finished product (a full size, fully constructed two-story home) should really be something to see!

The Centerpiece Home isn’t the only exciting thing going on at the 2012 Indianapolis Home Show. There are appearances by design celebrities including  John Gidding of HGTV’s Curb Appeal and model turned interior designer Kathy Ireland, examples of all the latest trends in home building and design and – this weekend only – an Antique Show in the South Pavilion. More than 60 dealers will be on hand with a variety of antiques for purchase. Free antique appraisals also will be available!

And if all that’s not enough, this year the Indianapolis Home Show and the Home and Flower Show have combined. A building in the south pavilion of the state fairgrounds will feature 25,000 square feet of beautifully landscaped gardens and flower beds.

If you like creative coffee drinks, creative mixed drinks, or both, you’ll definitely want to make a stop at Hearthstone Coffee House & Pub in Fishers. Recently opened next to Wild Ginger on 116th Street, Hearthstone  is a locally-owned and operated European-style coffee house and pub featuring just about any kind of drink you could thirst for – coffee, espresso, tea, beer, wine, cocktails -  plus breakfast, lunch, appetizers and desserts.

Never satisfied with simply taking the company Web site’s word for how good a place  is, my co-worker and I recently stopped by Hearthstone Coffee House & Pub for lunch. One vanilla latte, one cup of chili and one cup of wild rice and chicken soup later, we agreed: the place really is pretty good. Our food and drink was excellent (my co-worker declared the chili the best she’s had!), and the trendy yet cozy atmosphere made you truly want to sit and stay for a while. We’re already making plans to visit Hearthstone Coffee House & Pub in the evening – maybe on a Martini Monday for some live entertainment and a Bee’s Knees Martini. I don’t know what it is, but I definitely want one!

Just to make the experience totally guilt-free, Hearthstone Coffee House gives $.10 of every beverage they sell to charity!  So why not drink up?!

Next time you visit Fishers Town Hall, don’t be surprised to find that you’ve walked into an art gallery! The lobby of the town hall has been transformed into Art in Town Hall, a permanent gallery featuring the works of local artists. Fishers resident Pamela Newell is the first artist to be featured. Newell’s landscapes, gardens, and still lifes, many of local scenery, are on display through Feb. 10.

Art in Town Hall exhibits will rotate throughout the year to highlight as many artists as possible. Artists who live in, work in, or have a connection to Fishers are encouraged to apply to the Fishers Arts Council to have their works featured.  Art in Town Hall is open 8:30 am – 4:30 pm weekdays and Saturday mornings. Admission is free.
